In 2020 Medium had many ambitious plans to evolve it's product and continue to grow it's audience. As part of that evolution, it made sense to have a close look at the overall brand design and see if it aligned with their continually evolving direction.
We partnered with the team at Collins agency to refresh the look and feel of the brand. Alongside a cross-departmental group from Medium, Brian Collins and his talented team, I contributed to this brand evolution as a key stakeholder.
An entire brand book and design system was developed.
A stand-out from the system is the development of art and illustration composed of typography (see below). It resonates beautifully with part of Medium’s mission—to allow for the democratization of ideas and thought, through the written word. This approach can also be scaled and applied to many aspects of the design system.
It was a brilliant proposal from Collins that served as an anchor to the overall system that I strongly supported and advocated for throughout the process.
